The greens, tees, fairways, and rough are all aerified and seeded successfully. We only have green surrounds to left to do next week. The dry weather we have had allows us to keep the course clean when we pull plugs. It seems like mud gets everywhere when we try to do it in the rain. Most of the time we don’t have a choice but to do it in the rain. This Fall we got lucky.
The greens are nearly healed so on Monday we will begin the verticut and topdressing process to make them more smooth and fast. This will continue on non-rainy Monday’s throughout the winter.
As aerification comes to an end we begin to work on the bunkers like we have been each winter. Last year we started repairing fairway bunkers and will continue where we left off on holes like 18 and 8. These bunkers will have the old contaminated sand removed, drains checked and new sand added. The maintenance team will also concentrate on removing the rocks from the sand by screening each bunker. We will be working on them as time allows us until we start aerification again in March. I will be posting updates here regularly to show our progress.
We will also be planting new trees on the golf course later this month on Holes 6, 12, and 15. The trees on 15 will be replacing the ones that died in the right rough and the ones on 6 and 12 will be in locations that add to the strategy of the holes.
