As some of you have noticed, we have started to go through the bunkers and check the sand depths. Over time, sand is moved by golfers, irrigation, rain water, wildlife (coyotes in our case) and maintenance staff, so we periodically need to go through and move the sand around along with adding or removing for playability reasons. Typically the migration of sand leads to the lower portions of the bunker, creating a scenario of too much sand in the bottom and not enough on the higher sides. As of today, we have been through the green side bunkers and starting on the fairways bunkers.

Along with this process, we are also changing the way we are placing the rakes for daily play. Below is a picture of the new placement, so please help us out and return them to these locations when finished using.

Along with those items, we would like to remind everyone to keep their golf carts on the paths as directed. As you can see from the following picture, it can be extremely wet here in Northern California this time of year. My previous blog has more details regarding the effect traffic has on wet soils. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation with this.

Yours in turf,
Stacy L. Wallace, Golf Course Superintendent
