April 6th Driving Range Tee Update

Since our last post on March 17th, our day to day lives have changed dramatically due to the Sonoma County “Shelter in Place” order which has affected our members and staff in significant ways. We look forward to everything returning to normal and seeing everyone out enjoying the golf course again.

As we discussed in the Week 2 Update of the driving range project, we had several things to accomplish to finish up construction during week 3:

– Finish adding 2 inches of new mix and till in at a 4 inch depth.

– Laser level to final grade and adjust sprinkler head depths accordingly.

– Sod the perimeter areas of the teeing surface.

– Prep and seed the tee bed.

– Install the TurfHound synthetic surface on the concrete pad.

We were fortunate to get everything finished before the contractor had to leave due to the County order, except the install of the synthetic surface. As you can see in the following picture, the seed has germinated and we are moving forward with the grow-in of the hitting surface.

This photo was take last Tuesday.

The company that installs the synthetic surface will come out when the restrictions are lifted. As we get closer to the end of the Shelter in Place (which has been extended to May 3rd), we will communicate the timing of the installation schedule. The grass part of the tee will not be ready for use until the end of May at the earliest, therefore we will have to use the back tee with the same restrictions used during construction until the synthetic is installed. We will keep you up to date on this as we progress with the grow-in.

Stay safe and we hope to see you soon!

Yours in turf,

Stacy L. Wallace, Golf Course Superintendent
