March 2, 2021 Update

As we move into March, the golf course is drying out due to warmer temperatures, more daylight, and a result of the minimal rainfall we have received this season. With that brings the use of golf cars off of paths, so we want to refresh everyone’s memory of the gate system for golf car usage.

The gate system will have an entrance and exit to the hole. The picture above is the entrance. Many of the areas that struggle are around greens and tees. With the gate system, you will keep your cart on the path until you reach the entry gate (two posts with a green top) and enter the hole at this point. Once you enter, please do your best to keep cart traffic to the fairway and out of the rough.

Once you reach the signs in the fairways, follow the arrow direction and you will leave the fairway through the exit gate post. From here you will stay on the cart path the remainder of the hole. We will move them on a daily basis to distribute the wear and tear of golf cart usage appropriately. We thank you in advance in adopting the process and ask that you adhere to it at all times.

The railroad tie project is moving ahead of schedule and we hope to finish by the end of March. By the end of this week, we will have all the railroad ties removed thru #14, and the #18 hole. Only some sod work at #13, and #14 will be remaining. That leaves us with holes #15, #16, and #17 left. Following are some pictures of the work.

As many of you know, we implemented the first phase of the cart path repair program on hole #12. Below you will see the before and after pictures. The second phase of this will occur in April weather permitting.

One last thing to note is the expenditure of over $100,000 on new maintenance equipment, which we should start receiving in approximately two weeks.

Hopefully we see some more rain before summer gets here to help restore above and below ground reservoir’s. As of this writing, we have only received a little over 10 inches of rainfall.

Yours in turf,

Stacy L. Wallace, Golf Course Superintendent
