March 2, 2022 Update.

As we move into March, the staff are gearing up for the summer season. One of the projects we have been working on is going through the sand bunkers and checking depths. Sand continually moves via weather and raking patterns. Because of that movement, it is necessary to go through periodically, check depths, and move sand around. As you may expect, this takes a large amount of manpower to accomplish. To date, we have completed a check of all the fairway bunkers and have 6 green sites remaining.

Here you see the crew working on the bunker right of #13 green. You also see the pile of roots they are removing coming from the willow tree next to the pond.

Here is a picture of the larger roots coming into the bunker.

Another project we have initiated is the replacement of the old shrubs behind the driving range tee. We will replace them with new material and upgrade the irrigation portion that waters this area.

Here are the staff during the removal process.
Another project we completed was replacing the ferrule’s and refinishing the old flagsticks on the golf course.
Another item we have been working on as time provides is cleaning up the shop yard. Over the years old equipment had accumulated, so we are making a point of removing it and organizing the yard more efficiently and aesthetically.

Hopefully March brings us some measurable rainfall to help us get through the summer season. Even though we have nearly received average rainfall amounts, the majority of that was October thru December. January, February, and the beginning of March has been extremely dry. This is the first time I recollect hand watering in February since I have been in the North Bay, so we definitely could use some more rain.

Yours in turf,

Stacy L. Wallace, Golf Course Superintendent
