June 18th Update

We are excited to announce the bunker project is underway. On Monday, DHR Construction and Kyle Downs, Senior Design Golf Architect for Tripp Davis and Associates, met on the property to go over the design philosophy of the new bunkers. Kyle has a rich history not only in design, but also substantial construction experience. Along with Kyle, we will also have Jason Gold on-site to oversee the bunker construction project. Jason is the Shaper/Construction Specialist from Tripp Davis’s staff. We are confident with the expertise of these two gentlemen and the extensive experience of the DHR team, the project will be smooth and successful. The initial phase of this process will start at #3, #4, and #13. Tuesday, we had shovels in the ground and began the work at #3.

Here is a before picture of #3 as the initial sod removal begins.
After the sod is removed, existing bunker deconstruction begins.

The first two weeks will be slower than normal so all parties involved can get the design concept while allowing everyone to get in a rhythm. With that being said we expect to possibly see sod and the finish work being completed at #3 by the end of next week. As of today, work has also started on #4 and we expect that to move to #13 early in the upcoming week.

You will see a stockpile of the debris from the construction work at 3,4, and 13 being staged to the right of #3. Eventually this will be blended and shaped into the existing mounding in this area eliminating the need for expensive removal.
The Bunker Solutions bunker liner product has arrived and is stockpiled at the maintenance facility.
Along with the bunker liner, new drainpipe is also being stockpiled.

The first 120 tons of the new bunker sand has also arrived.

Along with the bunker project, we will also continue the work removing and repairing tree stumps throughout the property. In many circumstances, we will be able to use the sod being removed from the bunker sites and use it for the tree stump areas.

Another project being implemented Monday is the interseeding of new Bentgrass into our existing greens. Because of this we will not open the golf course until noon Monday. This process will take place four times during the warmer growing season to improve the chances of the Bentgrass to outcompete the Poa annua.

As the week progresses, we may move to an additional hole pertaining to the bunker project. You can check in with the golf shop on a daily basis to find out what holes are closed due to the construction process. Please feel free to reach out or wave me down on the golf course if you have any questions regarding the bunker project. These updates will go out every Sunday afternoon discussing the previous weeks work and what to expect in the upcoming week.

Yours in turf,

Stacy L. Wallace, Golf Course Superintendent
