June 25th, 2023 Bunker Project Update

As I sit and write this update, we are two weeks into the bunker project. The original estimate is approximately 120 days from start to finish. As we discussed last week, the first two weeks will be slow out of the gate until all parties involved get familiar with the design concept and process. With that being said, I am encouraged how the first two weeks evolved and expect the work to progress more efficiently starting this upcoming week. Along with the initial DHR Construction crew, Tripp Davis’s shaper Jason Gold will be on-site daily for the remainder of the project to oversee and approve the work so re-grassing the construction zones can begin. We currently expect the first phase of laying sod will begin around July 5th. DHR added an additional crew during the second week, and we expect a third crew will start next week to move the process forward.

As of today, the greenside bunkers have been approved on Hole #3 and the Bunker Solutions liner has been installed. Next week we will see the fairway bunkers at #3 being completed along with bunkers taking shape on Holes #4, and #13, After these three initial holes, the work will be moving to #14, #2, and #15.

Here is the final approved back left greenside bunker at Hole #3. The new walk-in areas will make it extremely easy for anyone to get in and out of the bunkers.
Here you see the Bunker Solution liner installed. Not only will this help keep sand in place, it also eliminates native soil and rock contamination.
Here is the initial layout of the new fairway bunker on the right side of #3.

Please feel free to contact me or stop me on the golf course if you have any questions regarding the project or anything related to the golf course.

Yours in turf,

Stacy L. Wallace, Golf Course Superintendent
