As I sit and write this we are going through the heart of our rainy season. Yesterday we received .37″ of rain. Our total for the month to date is 4.44″ and 27.42″ for the season. Along with that we are forecasted to receive another 3.5″ Saturday thru Tuesday. As you may expect the property is very wet. We were able to mow most of the course before this last rainfall event. In the pictures below are some of the areas too wet to mow with the larger equipment.

In this are between 10 & 11 we have to weedeat due to the moisture in the soil.

The left side of #16 is being mowed with a 21″ push mower. Another obstacle in these wet conditions is clipping management. Since the turf blades are wet, we have to blow behind the mowers, so clumps of clipping do not suffocate the turf below.

Along with attempts to mow the property between rainfall events, normal maintenance practices continue such as irrigation repair (see picture below). A lot of tree debris cleanup has also been necessary from a few of the storms due to the high winds.

In this picture you see an irrigation pipe that was compromised by the tree roots and had to be repaired.
This was a tree between 8 & 9 that blew down during one of the recent storms.
A lot of debris cleanup has occurred around the Redwood trees on the property.

On a positive note, post-storm bunker repair has not been needed due to the new design and construction allowing us to use staffing in other areas. Our next agronomy communication will be the March newsletter.

Yours in turf,

Stacy L. Wallace, Golf Course Superintendent
