September 14, 2025 Update

The irrigation contractor mobilized this week bringing in equipment, materials, and staffing. In addition to mobilization, the following items were accomplished:

  • Marked the entire main line and surveyed it with GPS.
  • Started the installation of two new valves on the #5 well infrastructure.
  • Tapped into existing main behind #6 green so new system can be flushed as they install.
  • Marked irrigation head locations on holes 3,4,5,6,7,12, and 13. Surveyed these locations with GPS.
  • Mapped out new pump station location and intake pipe elevations.

Monday they will start installing main lines beginning behind #6 green. This area is where they tapped into the existing main so they can flush the new system as they go. Along with the main line installation, they will finish the new valve installation at #5 well.

Here you see materials arriving.
The pipe used in this project is HDPE (high-density polyethylene pipe). You can see in this picture that HDPE is stronger than PVC pipe. It will have a longevity of over 50 years.
These two valves will be replaced on the #5 well infrastructure. They are over 30 years old.
The irrigation designer laying out the irrigation head coverage. Initially the heads are flagged in the field and then surveyed via GPS so the flags can be removed.

Just a reminder that fairway topdressing, aeration, and seeding will start next week also. We will be closed Monday to begin the process. The golf course will reopen Tuesday. We will inform you daily via the Golf Shop regarding any hole closure needs due to the irrigation project. This will be a necessity at times for safety and efficiency.

Yours in turf,

Stacy L. Wallace, Class A Golf Course Superintendent
