Agronomy Update November 14, 2025

As I sit and write this Thursday afternoon, we have received 1.49 inches of rain. Our total for the season is 4.62 inches. The rain is direly needed for our underground water reservoirs, but it will slow down the irrigation project. To date the following portions of the project have been completed:

  • Main lines installed on holes 2,3,4,5,6,7,11,12,13,14,15,16,17.
  • Pump station wet well and concrete pad installed.
  • Pump station intake line installed.
  • Installed all three communication hubs. They are located at #4 bathroom, behind #6 green, and left of #9 near the parking lot.
  • Lateral pipe and irrigation rotors installed on #6 & #7.
  • Installing infrastructure at Arnold well to divert the water to new irrigation pond.
  • New valves installed at 5 well delivery infrastructure.
  • Started installing lateral lines and irrigation rotors at #12.
  • Started installing main line #8 & #9 area.

Along with the work discussed above, they have been mapping all new and old infrastructure via GPS. This work ensures we will have accurate as-builts when finished.

In this picture, you see the old infrastructure delivery pipe at the Arnold well. This will be replaced with new valves and HDPE pipe.
This is the process implemented to install the lateral lines. A vibratory plow cuts through the soil, so no trench is necessary to install the pipe. We are going to have them remove the sod first for the remainder of the project. Initially it was creating too much damage to the turf due to the amount of rock in the soils.
One of the secondary benefits of this project is the root pruning from the trenching and pulling of pipe. In the picture you see the roots from the Sequoia trees behind #17 tee. The tree roots compete with the turf for water and nutrients. The roots will grow back so a root pruning program will be part of our agronomy program moving forward.

It looks like we have more rain coming in Saturday night through Monday morning. Please feel free to wave me down or send me a email if you have any questions about the project or maintenance in general.

Yours in turf,

Stacy L. Wallace, Golf Course Superintendent
