Week of February 16th

This week we concentrated on getting some detail work done. All of the trees, curbs and bunkers were string trimmed. In the winter, we try to stretch the frequency of string trimming so we can have extra time doing projects. The hazard stakes are all refurbished and are being placed back onto the course while the tree work continues to be a daily project.

These are bunker edges before trimming.

Here is the final product after trimming.

We have had to start night watering the course since our last measurable rainfall was on January 25th. The golf course has only received 11 inches of rain this year, nearly half of the normal rainfall that we typically get up to this point. The greatest effect the rain has on the course is that it flushes out the toxic salts that build up in the soil from a summer’s worth of irrigation water. If the salt levels get too high a grass plant has a hard time surviving. We are hoping for a wet March.
