December 13, 2024 Update

As I sit and write this, we are receiving rainfall for the third day in a row. Below are the totals to date:

  • November: 13.88 inches.
  • December to date: 1.79 inches.
  • Season total to date: 15.67 inches.

Last year at this time for the season we had received 5.83 inches thru the same date in December, so we are ahead of last year to date.

One of the projects we recently worked on was the installation of a brick slab for the shoe cleaning area. Tony procured a barrel with a grate for golfers to use so the debris is blown into the barrel. This will clean the site up and look more aesthetically pleasing.

Here is a picture of the area. We still have some work to do on the left end regarding the sprinkler alignment and paver border.
Another project implemented this week was the removal of the dead tree right of 16 green.

As you see below, staff continues to aerate the new sod areas from the bunker project when the weather is conducive.

During the rain period we take advantage of the weather and re-paint the cart directional signs.

Along with the discussed projects the crew is busy with normal maintenance and fall leaf cleanup.

Yours in turf,

Stacy L. Wallace, Class A Golf Course Superintendent

    stacy,

course looks great and aerification of construction areas should really help as sod matures this next season. During this wet period consider identifying the Hogan tee to green walkways most in need of firming sand. Greens are spectacular. Best for the holidays, Jim

I marvel at how you keep all grasses looking so good when they are constantly dug up by clubs, wild animals etc. Thank you! And thank you for the improved drainage that more quickly allows carts back on the course. Willa
